ive noticed over the past couple o' days that the general MASS HYSTERIA that had taken over pretty much THE WHOLE POPULATION OF AUSTRALIA upon the visit of the great david hasslehoff, has in fact died down. which is a shame really, because i was quite enjoying the blatant irony of the whole event. i mean, people! it was insane!

i remember back in the day when a fan club was erected in his name, one rainy day around the coffee shop table of the reid library, by such people as myself and mr ketelsen, and i'd like to think a few others too but it might've only been the two of us. the david hasselhoff fan club it was called, and i think it never actually got anywhere, but the passion was there.
so anyway i was dwelling on the humour of this self-conscious iconification (if not idolatrisation) of THE HOFF, and wondering how on earth it managed to spread so infectiously to the general populace. i mean its obvious that people are not serious. But dav-o really dug the attention it seems: guest starrin every single one of the few crappy host shows existing in this country, discussing at length the possibilities of knightrider the movie and world tours, throwing languid stares at the camera in the way that only the Hoff can pull off (rhymin fun), and so on and so forth.
it was great. really. ive never seen kitsch so blatantly and consciously exalted PURELY for its kitsch value. aaah... those glorious baywatch days when tv was all a shimmer of voluminous hair and breast implants and storylines to melt your heart. where have the early 90s gone? where?

So anyway, disappointed as i was to see the whole ordeal die down as if nothing had ever happened, i began to dwell on the possibility of relivin the glory with yet another icon of historically-dodgy-but-shockingly-popular-old school-tv series kitsch. People, we need to get CHUCK NORRIS in town.
